Malaysia is one of the most affordable places to earn an English-taught degree, and it is a short flight from major Indian cities. Alongside strong public universities such as Universiti Malaya, the country hosts branch campuses of Australian, British and Chinese universities that award the parent institution’s degree, often at a noticeably lower total cost than studying on the home campus.
It suits students who want quality and value rather than a direct path to settlement. Work during studies is limited to semester breaks, and while a 12-month Graduate Pass now exists, approvals for Indian nationals are currently decided case by case. Many students complete a full degree in Malaysia, while others use credit-transfer programmes to finish their studies in Australia, the UK or elsewhere.
Tuition and living costs are well below those in the UK, Australia or Singapore, even at well-known universities.

Student Pass (processed through EMGS)
International students need a Student Pass, applied for through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) with the help of the university. Indian students also need a single-entry visa before travelling, as the tourist visa exemption does not cover study.
Confirm your place and pay the EMGS and visa-related fees through the university.
The university submits your passport, certificates and photographs on the EMGS portal.
Once approved, you receive an electronic Visa Approval Letter.
Use the eVAL to apply for a single-entry visa from the Malaysian mission before you travel.
Attend a medical check at an EMGS panel clinic within 7 working days of arrival.
After clearing the medical, your passport is endorsed with the Student Pass, which is renewed every year.
Work rights during study are narrow, but the Graduate Pass has added a post-study option.
